Lyrics

ALLIGATOR ROLL
Sun’s going down in the southern sky
Black water in the woods is coming alive
Moon is coming up through the cypress trees
Smell of the swamp is on the breeze

At the water’s edge there’s a pair of eyes
Still as night an alligator lies
Jaws snap shut another soul is gone
To the bottom of the swamp in an alligator roll

He lives in the swamp they call him alligator man
He’s a trapper and a hunter living off the land
Makes his money selling alligator hides
Living in the swamp where the strong survive

At the water’s edge there’s a pair of eyes
Still as night an alligator lies
Jaws snap shut another soul is gone
To the bottom of the swamp in an alligator roll

Bridge:

Down down down
Into the muddy water never to be found
In swamp water black as coal
The last thing you’ll ever know is an alligator roll

Chicken on a hook hot summer night
Catch a mean alligator putting up a fight
Stick your hand in the water you ain’t going home
Black water sounds with your breaking bones

At the water’s edge there’s a pair of eyes
Still as night an alligator lies
Jaws snap shut another soul is gone
To the bottom of the swamp in an alligator roll
