MID TEMPO @ 124 BPM MOOD; OBLIGATION, SENSE OF DUTY, RIGHTEOUS VIRTUE. by Rick Hagler THIS IS THE EPIC, JOHN WAYNE, WESTERN. THE GUNFIGHTER, CODY, TRIES TO HANG UP HIS GUNS, MOVE OUT WEST ,TO EAST TEXAS, ON A RED RIVER BEND, TO TRY TO LIVE A PEACEFUL LIFE. HIS WIFE, SARAH, IS ACCOSTED BY 2 MEN FROM CODY'S PAST WHO TRACKED HIM DOWN TO SETTLE A SCORE. CODY CAN'T LET THAT PASS SO HE SADDLES UP THE BAY, STRAPS ON HIS COLTS, AND HEADS TO TOWN. WHAT I LIKE ABOUT WESTERNS IS THE GOOD GUY ALWAYS WINS.
The Cowboy Way
Cody laid his colts on the kitchen table, Sally finally cried herself to sleep
He had made a promise nearly 6 years back he knows he can’t keep
They moved out west right after the war, seen all the blood they could stand
Found a little piece on a Red River bend, gonna be a peaceable man.
Sally was stopped by two hard cases when she went to town for supplies
One walked with a limp the other one had a bad scar over his eye
Cody Knew by the damage he’d done, his past had rode into town
There used to be three back in the days when Cody lived by the gun.
Cowboys see in black and white, there are no shades of gray
A man does you wrong you make it right, take care of your own, It’s the cowboy way.
Cody stared at the three words he had wrote after struggling with it all through the night
He saddled up the bay and strapped on the colts he’d head out first light
The promise was made against an oath he’d taken; a man has to be a man
He had tried to hide but he would not run, she’d just have to understand.
Hard times make hard men just trying to live in a lawless land,
If justice comes at all it’s often by a hangman’s hand, Walk tall, talk slow if you talk at all,
Say what you mean and mean what you say if you want to live long,
You better know the cowboy way.
